MOSCOW — The chief of Russia’s space forces on Thursday said Moscow would have to retaliate if others deploy weapons in space — a stern warning to the United States.
While Col.-Gen. Vladimir Popovkin did not name any specific country, he was clearly referring to U.S. plans for space-based weapons, which the Kremlin had vociferously opposed.
“We don’t want to wage a war in space, we don’t want to gain dominance in space, but we won’t allow any other nation to dominate space,” Popovkin said in televised remarks. “If any country deploys weapons in space, then the laws of warfare are such that retaliatory weapons are certain to appear.”
President Vladimir Putin has criticized U.S. plans for space-based weapons, saying it could trigger a new arms race.
When China tested an anti-satellite missile in January, Putin said that the move was a response to U.S. plans for space-based weapons.
Russia and China have strongly pushed for an international agreement banning space weapons, but their proposals have been stymied by the United States.
“It’s necessary to legalize the game rules in space,” Popovkin said. He warned that the complexity of space weapons could trigger a war.

Back behind the towering corn is a message that can only be seen from the air.
It is one of the most infamous symbols of hate — a swastika — cut into acres of cornfields in Washington Township, Mercer County.
A New Jersey State Police helicopter on a routine maintenance mission made the discovery Friday.
The swastika was located off of Hankins Road, near where similar swastikas were found in July 1998 and June 1999.
No arrests were made in the previous cases.
Investigators found that the most recent swastika appeared to have been hand-cut and covered an area of several acres.
“This should be in the past, and we should have learned from our mistakes, and to bring up something that brings back such awful memories, I think, is disgusting,” said Joe Pica, whose property is one of many that border the fields.
Monday, neighbors said they hope it was kids who didn’t know any better.
As a traditionalist Catholic living in America, I consider myself someone who stands apart from many others in this country who are appearing more and more as Catholics in name only or CINOs. I find it appalling, that many of them think most priests are pedophiles, priests should be allowed to marry, women should be priests, all war and capital punishment is evil, God is excepting of homosexuality, and human life doesn’t really begin until childbirth. I also find it equally disturbing when I hear them rag about how Pope Benedict XVI is some right wing nazi who is unsympathetic to progressive Catholic views. Frankly speaking, Catholicism should have never evolved into its present day format, but what liberal Catholics are failing to realize is that 40 years ago, Fr. Joseph Ratzinger was instrumental in orchestrating the progressive transformation of the Church known as the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, or Vatican II.
Even though Pope Benedict has said that Vatican II did not accomplish what he originally intended, he is determined to hold fast to the new dogmatic principals.
Well, it appears that “God’s Rottweiler” has for some time now been espousing philosophies which leave me a bit unnerved and without proper clarification might cause an even larger rift between conservative capitalists and the socialists within the Church.
The Pope is expected to use his first address to the United Nations to deliver a powerful warning over climate change in a move to adopt protection of the environment as a “moral” cause for the Catholic Church and its billion-strong following.
The New York speech is likely to contain an appeal for sustainable development, and it will follow an unprecedented Encyclical (a message to the wider church) on the subject, senior diplomatic sources have told The Independent.
It will act as the centrepiece of a US visit scheduled for next April – the first by Benedict XVI, and the first Papal visit since 1999 – and round off an environmental blitz at the Vatican, in which the Pope has personally led moves to emphasise green issues based on the belief that climate change is affecting the poorest people on the planet, and the principle that believers have a duty to “protect creation”.
What can I say? I love my Church and I am committed to following its teachings, but this latest directive from the Pope is leaving a horrible taste of sulfur in my mouth. Enviro-mental-illness is typically a leftist agenda and to hear this guy come out in defense of “green” issues in this fashion is literally scaring the bejezus out of me. I mean, WTF? Is my beloved Pope being demoniacally possessed by Algore???
Doesn’t the Pope realize that capitalism is the economic powerhouse which fuels charitable contributions in the first place? Doesn’t the Pope know how his directives will be used by the environmental propagandists to push their godless and socialist agendas? Doesn’t the Pope realize that by working to change the hearts of men consumed by greed, he can promote compassionate capitalism which in turn can help others to help themselves instead of living the rest of their lives as slaves to welfare and entitlement systems of socialism?
Pope Benedict XVI should instead be making it clear that socialism without God at the center is nothing more than atheistic communism which seeks to enslave the human race!
I can understand if he’s concerned that humans should be more charitable and I can understand if he’s concerned that humans should be more conscious of conserving natural resources. As I have said in the past; I am a conservationist, not an environmentalist. The conservationist is mindful of not trashing his surroundings or squandering its resources. I believe in sound and practical environmental management. I am dead set against littering. I also believe in giving back to the earth what I take. But to suggest that I or even the largest corporation on earth can have any impact on altering global climate trends is pure folly! When you think of the levels of carbon dioxide man contributes to our atmosphere compared to that which comes from volcanoes and all the oceans around the world, how can anyone possibly think that by our efforts, we can make any significant change?
Here, allow me to share with you the show that has pissed off the enviro-mental-patients, blown away the theory that man-made CO2 has anything to do with global warming and that all this enviro-mental-madness is absolute bunk…
Not surprisingly, all the nut cases who worship at the church of Algore have issued a fatwah pledging holy jihad against the scientists and the makers of this television series. The internet is full of condemnation over it and the lies being thrown out there to discredit the documentary speak volumes on the character of the people against it.
Ultimately, what I see going on here is another misguided attempt by the Church to increase the numbers of faithful by appealing to the trend of the day. This is not unlike the attempt that was made back 40 years ago when Vatican II was instituted. By loosening the orthodox principles on which our Catechism was founded, you inevitably risk sacrificing the strength of the Church as a whole.
After posting about John McCain’s hypocracy in his comments about Rudy’s Second Amendment stance, I happened to be reading a post over at SondraK’s site which reminded me about Fred Thompson’s support of McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform.
Fred Thompson finally made clear his position on the statist campaign finance restrictions embodied in the McCain-Feingold bill. And conservatives are clearly not going to be pleased.
When the former star of TV’s “Law and Order†series and newly-minted presidential candidate spoke to reporters on the porch of the Grand Hotel here, I asked Thompson whether he was proud of his role in enacting the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform legislation in ‘01.
“Yes,” replied the former Tennessee senator without hesitation.
To be honest, I completely forgot about his involvement in getting that legislation passed through the Senate. In researching this flub on Thompson’s part, I found a post over at Michelle Malkin’s site, HotAir.com, that has an interview between Fred Thompson and Laura Ingraham, where Laura grills Fred over his support of the McCain-Feingold bill.
As for the rest of the article from Human Events, Thompson goes on to admit that the reform bill did not produce the results he expected and states that he intends to revisit the details of that piece of legislation which many conservatives agree was one of the worst infringements on America’s right to freedom of speech in recent history.
…”You will recall that the central part of the legislation was getting rid of soft money [from the political process].” He then went on to remind me that he came from a background in the private sector and, in that sector, it would have been thought unseemly for “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to be poured in to influence someone’s decision. In the public arena, “it got to be the norm” because of the soft money, upon which there were no limits for donations to the two major political parties.” The contributors, he said, would then, “harass legislators before they vote on anything. This was not a good idea.”
Continued
Thompson went on to remind me that it was his amendment to McCain-Feingold that, “raised the hard money index” and he was also proud of that.
If there is anything in McCain-Feingold that “has not worked out,” he went to say, it is “placing limitations on ads [by independent groups] in the [political] process. Thompson hinted that he would support legislation to change this, since “the Supreme Court has better things to do with its time than hear cases on unfair limitation.” (Earlier this year, by a decision of 5-to-4, the Supreme Court struck down parts of McCain-Feingold that dealt with limiting ads by independent groups.) He also said that the landmark campaign finance legislation he held shepherd to passage (and which President Bush signed in ‘01) has created a larger bureaucracy to enforce regulations and “that part hasn’t worked out.”
*snip*
I do hope that he is sincere about fixing that ridiculous law and hopefully he will avoid throwing stones in glass houses or slipping in any hypocritical piles of dog shit as well. That being said, IMO, Fred would still make a damned good and strong leader.
It appears to me that presidential hopeful, Senator John McCain likes throwing stones inside his little house of glass. During an NRA gathering to hear the GOP candidates tout their positions on the second amendment, Rudy Giuliani tried desperately to mask his left of center view on the subject to which many of the other candidates and pundits found an opportunity to throw stones of ridicule at him. Of course, there is always one in the crowd who slips in his own hypocritical pile of dog shit.

A cell-phone call interrupted Republican presidential hopeful Rudolph Giuliani in midspeech at an NRA forum at the Capital Hilton in Washington yesterday. It was his wife, Judith.
Rudolph W. Giuliani yesterday assured members of the National Rifle Association he would protect their Second Amendment rights while his rivals for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination criticized his inconsistent record.

Yesterday, there were people all around him — in the audience and, one by one, at the podium — who did not agree with him. Sen. John McCain of Arizona struck first, telling group members they need to “dig into a politician’s record to find out where they really stand.”

I don’t want to single out Mexicans here, but honestly folks, if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear I’m beginning to feel like I live in a Mexican border state. Everywhere I go anymore, everything is including Spanish translations and no, I don’t want to press 1 to continue in English!!!
Just this week, our enlightened new dummycrat governor, Elliot Spitzer decided that proof of US citizenship should no longer be required to obtain a New York State drivers license!!!
(CBS) NEW YORK They were celebrating outside the governor’s office Friday as Eliot Spitzer handed a landmark victory to a half-million illegal immigrants.
The state will no longer require proof of citizenship for driver’s licenses.
“We’re changing our policy with respect to getting more people out of shadows and into the system so people don’t hide they’re here,” Spitzer said.
He said the current restrictions on non-citizens have filled the roads with unlicensed drivers five times more likely to get into accidents.
But the also called it a matter of justice.
“As long as I’m governor we won’t pretend they don’t exist, cut them off from society,” Spitzer said.
*snip*
A MATTER OF JUSTICE?!?! This coming from the man who was so determined to uphold the law when he served as NYS Attorney General and was literally on a crusade to prosecute criminals? Oh, I’m sorry, immigrants entering the United States and living in New York must have nothing to do with large corporations or individuals making huge profits. Ok, that ’splains it. By any chance, I wonder if his divine inspiration came from political intimidation by the same bunch of American hating libtards involved in this ridiculous lawsuit…
Lawsuit: ‘Operation Return to Sender’ Violates Constitutional Protections
NEW YORK (AP) – Immigration authorities violated Hispanic families’ civil rights by raiding their homes without court warrants, sometimes bursting in before dawn to look for people who didn’t live there, according to a federal lawsuit.
The suit was filed Thursday on behalf of 15 people—including seven U.S. citizens—who say their suburban homes were raided earlier this year.
Arguing that the raids violate constitutional protections against unreasonable searches, the suit seeks unspecified damages and a halt on the home raids until Immigration and Customs Enforcement develops legal guidelines for them.
Mark Thorn, an ICE spokesman, said the agency does not comment on pending lawsuits.
According to the lawsuit, a program dubbed Operation Return to Sender dispatched armed federal agents to homes in search of illegal immigrants thought to have lingered after being ordered to leave the country. But the people sought often weren’t there and couldn’t “reasonably” have been expected to be, the lawsuit said.

Given that, plus the absurd notion, as my hero Claire mentions over at SondraK’s website, that today’s Hitler of the Islamo-fascist movement is being allowed to set foot on NY soil – much less American soil – just begs me to ask somebody out there; WTF am I staying here for??? Someone… anyone??? Please tell me!!!

AL GORE has a story he wants to tell the world. But it will cost you a thousand dollars to hear it.
In a passionate attack on the climate policies of Prime Minister John Howard and US President George Bush, the former US vice-president, addressing a very expensive lunch in Sydney yesterday, called Australia and the US “the Bonnie and Clyde” outlaws of the global environment for their failure to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.
Mr Gore called on Australia to change course on Kyoto and its climate policies, saying if it did “it would be impossible for the United States to withstand the pressure” to join the rest of the world in ratifying Kyoto.
Labor under Kevin Rudd has promised to ratify the protocol while Mr Howard is adamantly opposed to it and is backing Mr Bush’s efforts to find a “post-Kyoto accord”.
Mr Gore made his comments after reporters were asked to leave the lunch venue. Despite the cost, lunch in the 700-seat room at the Sydney Convention Centre was a sell-out, as is tomorrow’s event in Melbourne. VIP packages, which included a spot close to Mr Gore and a meet-and-greet with him, cost $25,000.
With Liberal Party members allegedly warned off attending, yesterday’s lunch was something of a Labor Party affair. Mr Gore paid tribute to two Labor Bobs present — Hawke and Carr — praising the former for the hole-in-one he hit while playing with Mr Gore earlier in the day, and the latter for his commitment to the environment.
Mr Gore earlier met NSW Premier Morris Iemma, who brought with him Maxine McKew, Labor’s candidate in the federal seat of Bennelong, who also attended the lunch. Ms McKew said that Mr Gore was well informed about Australian politics and knew of her run for the Prime Minister’s seat.
“He said to me, ‘I’ve been talking to Bob Hawke about you, and I’ve been reading about you.’ ”
After his salutations, Mr Gore got down to business. The ballooning world population and the dizzying pace of technological change had helped turn mankind into an environmental “bull in a china shop”, he said.
That the world’s population had quadrupled in the past 100 years partly explained this. Technological change had also had a significant impact on “this shell of the environment that surrounds our planet”.
He went on: “In the last three weeks, the amount of ice melting in the Arctic has been completely unprecedented. In only six days an area the size of the US state of Florida disappeared; in the week before that, an area almost twice the size of Britain disappeared.
“It’s melting 10 times faster than previously recorded. Experts are now saying that if we don’t act with urgency, the entire ice cap could be completely gone in less than 23 years.”
Mr Gore said that despite all the scientific evidence about climate change, inaction still ruled among governments and business.
Raising his voice almost to a shout, he said climate change was not scientific, political or ideological.
“It’s about survival.”
My epiphany is this: Algore is not an idiot… insane, maybe, but not an idiot. The fools who give up $25,000 to hear him drone on about bad science, skewed data, and enviro-mental demagoguery are the idiots… as well as insane!
PORTLAND, Ore. — Snake collector Matt Wilkinson of Portland grabbed a 20-inch rattler from the highway near Maupin, and three weeks later, to impress his ex-girlfriend, he stuck the serpent in his mouth.
He was soon near death with a swollen tongue that blocked his throat. Trauma doctors at the Oregon Health and Science University saved his life.
“You can assume alcohol was involved,” he said. Actually, not just beer. It was something he called a “mixture of stupid stuff.”
Calls from cable network television stations poured in Tuesday, when he still had sore muscles and nerves from the venom.
It happened at a barbecue with friends.
Wilkinson, 23, had downed a six-pack and his ex-girlfriend asked him for a beer. He handed her one, not realizing the snake was also in his hand.
“She said, ‘Get that thing out of my face,’” Wilkinson said. “I told her it was a nice snake. ‘Nothing can happen. Watch.’”
So he stuck the snake in his mouth.
“It got a hold of my tongue,” he said.
He was having breathing problems when his ex-girlfriend drove him to the hospital. “She was the only one sober,” Wilkinson said.
En route, they spotted a police car and asked for help.
His next memory, he said, was waking up at the hospital.
Doctors could not get a breathing tube down his throat.
Dr. Richard Mullins cut a hole in Wilkinson’s neck to insert the breathing tube. Physicians started giving antivenin, moved him to intensive care and kept him sedated until the swelling went down.
The Poison Control Center sees about 50 people a year with snake bites, usually hikers. Deaths from rattlesnake bites in Oregon are extremely rare.
Wilkinson, who works in construction, has yet to return to work. His three Western diamondback rattlers have been removed from his home.
He says co-workers have been pretty blunt.
“They were like, ‘What the heck were you thinking?’” Wilkinson said.
The answer? “It’s my own stupidity.”
Now that’s gotta be one hangover he’ll never forget!
With Queen Rodham perched out there on her stump looking to garner support from an entitlement minded left-wing base by making a fresh pitch for her glorious “healthcare for all” program scheme if she becomes elected, someone else was seeding a story in USA Today about a similar measure that could be a reality before the end of next year.
…Clinton unveiled her plan as Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said President Bush wants to achieve universal health care before he leaves office.
Leavitt told the USA TODAY editorial board that Bush will veto a Democratic plan emerging from Congress that would add $35 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the Children’s Health Insurance Program over five years. In doing so, Leavitt said, Bush will urge Congress to join him in seeking coverage for all Americans.
“He’d like to see the larger debate begin,” Leavitt said. “The very best opportunity we have may well be in the next 15 months.”

What, in God’s name is he up to now??? What more can this guy do to kill off any support we have left for him??? Going after bad guys in the WOT was great and for that reason alone we are indebted to him – along with all of our brave men and women who are doing the actual ass kicking. But when he refuses to veto any non-military spending bills, allows liberals to construct legislation for education, pushes amnesty for illegal aliens, expands medicare to unheard of levels and proposes to establish universal health coverage for 300M+ people…
and just who does he expect to pay for it?!?!
Here we go again folks!
Time for America to bend over and assume the position???
Alright, who is this guy who looks so much like the President Bush? You know, the one we elected for a second go-around back in 2004. When did they off the real GW and what did they do with body??? Should we be checking the grounds over at Fort Marcy Park???
Here we are, four months latter and I am still asking the same question. With Islamic fascists in both Iran and Syria openly assisting insurgent attacks on our military in Iraq, actively working toward the destabilization of its government, threatening the destruction of our allies in Israel, and working feverishly on a weapons program intended for that very purpose, exactly WTF are we waiting for?!?! While Bashar Assad of Syria is being emboldened by asshat American apologists and liberal appeasers, that little bastard Ahmadinejad is becoming more and more cocky every day as he continues to thumb his nose at the US and the rest of the world with respect to his nuclear ambitions.
TEHRAN (AFP) — President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday declared Iran had mastered nuclear technology and would never yield in the face of international pressure over its atomic drive.
Ahmadinejad’s comments in an interview with Iranian television were broadcast hours after French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner warned the world should brace for war over Iran, although he did not react to those remarks.
“Of course we will not step back,” said Ahmadinejad in the interview with Iran’s Farsi language international channel Jam-e Jam in response to a call-in question by a viewer.
“We have mastered the technology to enrich uranium and we have arrived at an industrial stage,” he added.
“The West are talking about imposing sanctions on us. But they cannot do this,” he added.
The Iranian leader repeated a demand for a public debate with US President George W. Bush to “discuss important global issues with the aim of resolving them.”
“I had already suggested this the previous year. I am going to New York. Let us sit down together and hold discussions. But not behind closed doors. I have suggested that we discuss these global issues at the UN General Assembly to resolve them.
*snip*
Yeah, right, lay it at the feet of the UN General Assembly. That will be about as effective as trying to get milk from a bull. As witnessed by the UN’s ineffectiveness against Saddam Hussein prior to us going over there and giving him the proper ass kicking he deserved, UN deliberation has become nothing more than a decoy for dictators to buy time. Meanwhile, every day that passes gives them more opportunity to prepare for the inevitable which ultimately will translate in more casualties for us. I can only pray that we don’t make the same mistake we made in 2003 by giving our enemy such a dangerous advantage.

On his campaign swing through Florida, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has hammered away illegal immigration, saying that America must secure its borders to ensure national security.
Friday, he went a step further.
Thompson, a former senator from Tennessee, said it might be time to reconsider the country’s long-standing practice — one prescribed by the Constitution — of granting citizenship to any child born on U.S. soil.
“That law was created in another time and place for valid reasons,” Thompson said during a campaign stop here. “It probably needs to be revisited.”
*snip*
As I have stated back on June 12th with respect to immigration reform legislation…
“The only legislation that should be getting pushed through Congress is one that strengthens our borders with fencing, electronic surveillance, and a strong military presence, one that forces state and local municipalities into compliance with federal immigration guidelines, one that mandates stiff penalties for those who harbor or employ those who are here illegally, and one that demands immediate deportation of these people back to their country of origin without any possibility of ever returning to the United States unless their lives are threatened by severe reprisal from their home government …AND NO MORE ACCEPTIONS FOR ANCHOR BABIES!!!”
Thanks Fred, you sure are working hard to make my difficult choice a lot easier :)
This morning I awoke to a dilemma. It appears that one of my all time favorite conservatives has decided to, once again, enter the race for Republican Presidential Nominee. Alan Keyes, former Ambassador to the U.N. under Ronaldus Maximus, has long been a champion of conservative principles, is a man of great tenure and would undoubtedly make one of the most remarkable presidents our country has ever know. IMO, his conservative stand on the issues dwarf all other candidates for president, including Fred Thompson… hence, my dilemma.
As I mull the difficult decision over in my head as to who I will support for the Republican Presidential Nomination, there is only one issue that stands apart from all others. The problem is not so much in who I feel will best represent my values in the office, but who will be the most viable candidate to defeat the Democrat contender in 2008. After careful though, I must wait and see how effective these two candidates are in their campaigning, poling and fund raising. Time will tell and whomever the victor is, will be the one to whom I will pledge my full support.
